RFID tool developed to study spread of infection in hospitals

French and Italian researchers have developed an RFID-based technology that tracks face-to-face interactions. The goal of the SocioPattern project is to study the spread of hospital-acquired infections by mapping the meetings of patients and health care workers. A test in a geriatrics unit followed 50 health care workers and 29 patients for five days, and the statistics from the trial are being analyzed.
