All patients with acute pancreatitis need transabdominal ultrasound, experts say

The American College of Gastroenterology has released new standards for diagnosing and managing acute pancreatitis. The guidelines call for two of three diagnostic criteria -- pain, imaging data and serum amylase or lipase levels -- to guide the diagnosis and recommend transabdominal ultrasound for all patients diagnosed with the condition.
