Ups and downs of the state budget distress California teachers

Many California districts have either rescinded layoff warnings or offered jobs to teachers who were pink-slipped last spring after state budget cuts were not as deep as expected. Some teachers are opting to not return to their classrooms, however, out of resentment over how they were treated, or because they want more secure working conditions.
