Program gives youth hands-on building experience

The YouthBuild program in Richmond, Calif., gives students ages 17 to 24 a chance to learn construction skills and lets them work on actual projects as they work toward a high school diploma or GED. One contractor says the program, which helps his company meet requirements to award a certain percentage of jobs to local residents, "is the perfect vehicle to help get young adults jobs, get people back on their feet or improve their lifestyle."
