California rail yards receive $17.9 million in state funds

Sacramento's historic 244-acre rail yards have received $17.9 million in funds to create an urban infill mixed development. The California site marks the birthplace of the transcontinental railroad from Union Pacific. The project also will receive $6 billion in private funds to complete the transformation of the rail yards into 10,000 housing units.
