Expert weighs in on review for PET coverage expansion

The Medicare Evidence Development and Coverage Advisory Committee met last month to discuss whether to expand PET coverage to additional cancer types in response to an earlier recommendation from the National Oncologic PET Registry. NOPR official Barry Siegel, however, questioned the composition of the MedCAC panel, saying it only had one imaging person among mostly evidence-based medical experts. Siegel also criticized the approach of the meeting, saying it had several limitations, including one for the technology assessment of PET.
