JetBlue Airways will auction more than 300 flights and vacation packages on eBay this week, with opening bids starting at just 5 cents. "It's all about the cost of getting someone to notice you," says Harlan Platt, a Northeastern University professor who follows the airline industry. "A subtle advertisement such as this could be very effective." Despite the low opening bids, Platt expects the final bids will bring 85% to 90% of the flights' actual value.
