Texas' independent electric grid to handle wind power

The Lone Star State is the only state in the continental U.S. that boasts an independent electric grid not connected to any other region. The unique position means Texas can move quickly to implement transmission lines for wind power, and the state approved a $5 billion transmission network in July. Once complete, officials estimate the network could handle up to 25% of Texas' energy load.
