Chemical industry urges use of existing safety regulations

Organizations representing the chemical industry called this week on the Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board to avoid new regulations and instead make the most of existing national accident-reporting requirements for plant accidents. The American Chemistry Council said one strategy could be for the federal board to set up relationships with agencies that already receive real-time accident notifications, such as the National Response Center.
