China shows off first commercial jet, boasts of lower price

China's government-owned aircraft manufacturer has unveiled its first commercial jet, promising the single-aisle, 168-seat C919 will "surely be cheaper" than comparable planes from Boeing Co. and Airbus. Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China plans to target domestic airlines first, then seek international buyers for its new model. One analyst says price will be a "major advantage" for the Chinese manufacturer, but a Boeing official says the U.S. plane maker will seek out "new ways to consistently reduce the cost" of its 737.
