Mass. tree stumps transformed into public art

The stump that remains from cut-down trees can be carved into garden sculptures. Martha Mayo, a homeowner in Lowell, Mass., applied for a grant to transform the stumps in front of her historic home on city property into public art. Sculptor Glenn Szegedy carved a sun motif into one stump, and another sculptor will begin carving the second this week.
