Proposal to cut off power to prevent wildfires considered in California

The California Public Utilities Commission is set to vote on a proposal from San Diego Gas & Electric to turn off power to 60,000 homes and businesses during dry and windy weather to help prevent wildfires. Opponents argued such a measure could affect life-critical medical devices, traffic lights, water pumps and other important systems and also could start fires as people are forced to use candles and lanterns.
