STD diagnosis tied to higher HIV risk in girls, young women

Study results showed girls and young women ages 13 to 24 were three times more likely to be diagnosed with HIV if they already had an STD diagnosis. Those who were first diagnosed with gonorrhea or syphilis were much more likely to be diagnosed with HIV than women first diagnosed with chlamydia, researchers said.
