Amazon forms tentative deal to drop California referendum

California lawmakers agreed tentatively to let Amazon delay collecting sales tax on in-state purchases until September 2012, giving the company a year to persuade Congress to pass a federal measure on online sales tax. Under the California deal, Amazon would drop a push to put a referendum on the November ballot regarding the state's online sales tax law.
