Children's hospitalizations for MRSA surge since 2000

Hospitalizations of children with skin and soft-tissue infections, most linked to community-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, increased by more than 100% from 2000 to 2009, according to a study published online in Academic Pediatrics. Admissions for severe skin infections are now the seventh most common reason for pediatric hospitalizations, the researchers said.
