Construction employment is mixed in U.S. metro areas

An analysis of July employment data by the Associated General Contractors of America indicated that 136 metropolitan areas added construction jobs, 148 shed jobs, and 53 stayed at existing levels. AGC Chief Economist Ken Simonson expressed concern that construction workers will be affected by declines in private- and public-sector spending. "Countries do not rebuild their economies by neglecting the very infrastructure businesses rely upon to succeed," said AGC CEO Stephen Sandherr.
