Google acquires Zagat in a bid to woo local advertisers

Google said Thursday it has acquired iconic restaurant-review service Zagat as part of a push to increase its share of the $140 billion local advertising market. Zagat's online reviews are expected to supplement Google Places, a local-business listing service that the search giant launched after a failed $500 million bid to acquire Yelp two years ago.
