Mites, fleas are the most common causes of scratching in rabbits

When pet rabbits start scratching themselves frequently, the most likely culprits for the itch are fleas or Cheyletiella mites, writes veterinarian Jeff Kahler. Also called "fur mites," the tiny parasites are often invisible to the naked eye and can take over the bunny's entire coat if left untreated. However, treatment options, including shampoos, are readily available.
