Scientists say they've discovered extraterrestrial origins of gold

It turns out your wedding band may have come from another planet, or at least a dead star. After studying rocks from the island of Isua near Greenland, scientists are positing that many of the precious metals we mine -- including gold and platinum -- were deposited on the Earth billions of years ago following a global meteor shower of epic proportions. It's estimated that the meteor shower, and others like it, heaved 300 billion billion tons of material onto our planet.
