Scoring tool helps determine best heart transplant candidates

Hospitals can use a new scoring tool to predict the odds of one-year survival in determining which patients are the best candidates for heart transplant, researchers reported in the Annals of Thoracic Surgery. The study from the Johns Hopkins Heart Transplant program gives physicians a more scientific way to decide the allocation of scarce transplant organs.
