Costly HAIs decreasing but still problematic

Hospital-acquired infections occur in 5% to 10% of all hospitalized patients yearly, according to the CDC, and the five most common HAIs result in $9.8 billion in additional costs. Overall HAI infection rates have decreased but better monitoring and other tools could bring rates substantially lower, noted lead author Dr. Eyal Zimlichman. The study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
