Experts warn about Italy's tax on derivatives trading

Industry experts are warning that Italy's financial-transaction tax on derivatives might harm markets more than the tax on stocks, which has lowered trading volume. Rebecca Healey, a senior analyst at TABB Group, says firms often trade derivatives to avoid expenses involved in trading the underlying asset. Therefore, once a tax on derivatives is introduced, reasons for trading certain contracts will disappear.
