NPs call for inclusion in health exchange plans

Nurse practitioners urged the Obama administration to order insurance firms to include them in health plans on the new online marketplaces, which will begin enrollment on Oct. 1. As many as 30 million Americans could get health coverage over the next decade but "this will not happen if private insurers continue to exclude or restrict advanced-practice registered nurses from their provider networks," American Nurses Association President Karen Daley said. Pennsylvania is considering a bill that would allow practice without collaborative agreements. A similar measure in New Jersey is not advancing, according to AANP state representative Grace Reilly.
