Program for girls boosts confidence, problem-solving skills

The nonprofit Girls on the Run program combines running with activities to teach girls in grades 3 through 5 about problem solving and self-confidence and to get them talking about issues such as bullying, body image and peer pressure. The program, used in more than 200 cities in North America, often includes a public-service event and ends with the girls participating in a 5-kilometer run.
