Groupon and LivingSocial survived the daily deal boom-and-bust cycle by evolving with new features and services, making them viable marketing channels for restaurant chains like Smashburger that need a way to make a big splash in new markets. Other more established chains are using the services in new ways, like Burger King's recent deal offering free burgers to customers who signed up for the chain's loyalty program.
