Study highlights importance of early math intervention

How well young students understand basic number concepts may be indicative of how well they will perform in math in later grades, according to a recent study. Michele Mazzocco, the study's author and professor at the University of Minnesota's Institute of Child Development, said the findings call attention to the need to pay more attention to young children who exhibit difficulties in math and to ensure they have a solid understanding of what numbers mean.
