Schools treat 9/11 events with compassion

As the two-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks approaches, the nation's schools are carefully exploring the historical significance of the events while also addressing the emotional wounds they inflicted. Teachers and textbook publishers alike are taking a cautious approach as they provide perspective on such underlying themes as military responses to terrorism, foreign immigration, prejudice and fear.
