United expects cuts and low-cost airline to help bottom line

United Airlines CEO Glenn Tilton said yesterday that the carrier expects to cut costs by $5 billion per year, including $900 million in lease and debt payments. United also is looking toward launching a new low-cost carrier in early 2004.
