Miami-Dade could hire hundreds of Gulf Coast teachers

To fill vacancies and possibly replace teachers implicated in a continuing-education credits scam, Miami-Dade schools chief Rudy Crew said yesterday he plans to offer two-year contracts to Gulf Coast teachers out of work and homeless from Hurricane Katrina. District staff are working with developers to create free or low-cost housing clusters where displaced teachers can live together and support each other.
