Have you thought about "incentivizing" someone to give you confidential info -- like the private number of that CEO you'd love to pull into your firm? Some recruiters do -- and they pose as snack vendors or fly fishermen or anything else that brings them into contact with those who know the names and numbers of those they want. And most get rewarded quite well for their efforts. Says one, "I don't care if you're available [or not], I don't care if you want to move. I have to get in front of you and tell you why you should listen to me."
