Farecast says holiday airfares up 30% over last year

Getting home for the holidays will be more expensive this year, according to Farecast, an airfare-pricing Internet site. "The combination of high fuel prices, airline capacity and route cuts means holiday travelers may easily spend upward of $100 more per ticket than last year," says company spokesman Joel Grus. Average fares for Thanksgiving flights are up 31%, while Christmas and New Year's flights will be about 30% more expensive, the company says.
