Airlines boast improved on-time performance in July

With fewer flights in the sky, the 19 largest U.S. airlines boosted their on-time performance to 77.6% in July, an increase of nearly two percentage points compared to the same month last year. July's performance also represented an improvement over June, when 76.1% of flights arrived within 15 minutes of their scheduled time. Meanwhile, reports of mishandled bags plunged more than 21%, and only 827 customers filed complaints with the Transportation Department, down from 1,093 in July 2008.
