Competition, lower ingredient prices spur drop in food prices

Prices are dropping on key food items, as retailers and food makers woo budget-conscious consumers and as gas and ingredient prices drop. A Labor Department price index shows prices down 0.9% for the past 12 months, but they are still higher than before a steep price surge in 2008.
