Animal testing to be reduced in Europe

The European Parliament has agreed to dramatically tighten rules governing the use of animals in scientific testing, capping two years of heated debate on the issue. Under the new rules, which are designed to drastically reduce the number of animals used as test subjects, labs will be required to obtain government approval for animal testing and tests on great apes will be banned.
