OSHA will investigate work hours for medical residents

U.S. Labor Department officials said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate the need to regulate work hours of medical residents, following a petition by the consumer advocacy group Public Citizen and others. Labor Department Assistant Secretary David Michaels said that beyond medical error risks related to long work hours for physicians, the issue has broader implications in how fatigue affects operator error in other industries.
