Rail executives report improvement in rail traffic

Railroad executives reported that railroads are seeing improvement in rail traffic at the third annual Dahlman Rose & Co. global transportation conference in New York. Norfolk Southern and CSX have reported gains of 14% and 11% respectively. Canadian National and Canadian Pacific are enjoying steady freight growth fueled by an increased foreign demand for potash, iron ore, coal and copper. "The recovery may be choppy and uneven -- and that may be an understatement -- but it is a recovery," said NS CEO Charles Moorman.
