SOCMA urges regulators, lawmakers to reconsider reform attempts

Congress has recently tackled possible reforms on the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976 and the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards. But, "we want them to cease further consideration of existing legislation and to avoid pursuing any new legislation this year that would add to the regulatory burdens facing our small-business members," said Lawrence Sloan, president of the Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates, a group representing American specialty-chemical makers.
