Airlines add minutes to flight times to resolve issues

Airlines have been adding minutes to flight times in an effort to prevent missed connections and mishandled luggage and improve on-time performance. The government is closely monitoring airlines' on-time rates, giving carriers an added incentive. Dave Holtz, managing director of operations at Delta, said the longer flight times are part of a response to changes in air travel. "You're just predicting around what reality is in the aviation world," he said.
