Are CFOs cut out for the CEO role?

Tim Morse has stepped in as Yahoo!'s interim chief executive following the firing of Carol Bartz. The situation is unusual because chief financial officers aren't usually the ones tapped for the top job, these recruiters say. Instead, most companies' succession plans focus on executives such as chief operating officers and directors. On the other hand, a CFO can provide much-needed stability and experience when a CEO leaves unexpectedly, one recruiter says.
