Cat's weight loss may signal serious health conditions

More than half of U.S. cats are overweight or obese, but owners shouldn't always celebrate when their fat cats suddenly start losing weight. Unexplained weight losses may be a cause for concern, writes veterinarian Heidi Bassler, as this may be the only obvious sign of the early stages of serious health conditions including diabetes, hyperthyroidism and kidney disease, all of which can be treated if diagnosed in time.
