Why Twitter should model itself on Reuters, not Facebook

Twitter says it has 100 million active users -- but monetizing that massive user base is proving tricky. To cash in on its potential, Mathew Ingram argues, the service should start thinking like a media organization rather than a social network, operating as a social news wire with a portfolio of affiliated services. "Twitter could be the crowdsourced Reuters of the digital age," Ingram writes.
