AHA: Greater attention, engagement needed to curb pediatric obesity

An American Heart Association statement in the journal Circulation estimates that 4% to 6% of children and adolescents in the U.S. suffer from severe obesity and that the prevalence continues to rise. Researchers said the condition "demands attention and clinical management ... and will place a significant economic and clinical services burden on the future health care system [if unchecked]" and stressed that stakeholders "will need to work together to engage the growing problem of severe pediatric obesity."
