Amazon, eBay lobby on opposite sides of online-tax bill

Amazon has spent about $50,000 per month on Washington lobbyists to urge lawmakers to pass the Marketplace Fairness Act, which would allow states to require all but the smallest online retailers to collect sales tax. Rival eBay opposes the bill, as do smaller online sellers, such as Puget Sound Instrument owner Peter Ollodart, who fears the expense of compliance in multiple states would put him out of business.
