Calif. city is told to improve risk management to keep insurance

Irwindale, Calif., has been told by its insurance provider to improve its risk-management practices regarding its Police Department and other operations. The California Joint Powers Insurance Authority says the city must meet steps in a performance-improvement plan to maintain its liability and workers' compensation policies. The city has been involved in about $2 million worth of settlements related to lawsuits and allegations of criminal activity and misconduct in the past five years, the authority said.
