Calif. university snags $1.5M federal grant for algae work

California Polytechnic State University has secured a $1.5 million research grant from the Department of Energy to further its work on algae-derived biofuels, the agency said. New Mexico State University was awarded $5 million, while two businesses, Sapphire Energy and Hawaii Bioenergy, also received research grants.
