Drug combo shows promise as treatment for deadly coronavirus

In monkeys, a combination of ribavirin and interferon protects them from the deadly Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus, and the treatment could also be used in humans, according to a study in the journal Nature Medicine. Three of six rhesus monkeys were given the drug cocktail eight hours after being infected with the coronavirus and showed only minimal symptoms, but the other three got very sick, researchers said.
