Lack of sleep is more common among black adults than whites

Among almost 137,000 U.S. adults surveyed between 2004 and 2011, 30% were sleeping less than seven hours every night while 31% were getting the optimal sleep time of about seven hours. Thirty-seven percent of black adults were getting too little sleep compared with 28% among their white counterparts, and the discrepancy was greater among people with professional or management jobs, researchers said. The study was published in the American Journal of Epidemiology.
