Retailers embrace smartphones with image-recognition shopping

Retailers are tapping image-recognition technology in smartphones to counter showrooming with enhanced customer service, writes Chantal Tode. Stores can make the in-store shopping experience more fruitful by giving inventory information or suggesting similar items, for example, when customers snap pictures of an item. "It also allows brands to track taps, scans, geolocation and level engagement around products," said Landis White, Parallel 6 chief technology officer.
