Robot inspired by maggots targets brain tumors

A small robotic device inspired by the ability of maggots to remove damaged or dead tissue may soon enable neurosurgeons to mechanically reach and remove brain tumors that would be otherwise inoperable. The device, developed by a team at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, resembles a many-jointed finger and includes a cauterizing and suction apparatus at its tip.
