SNP along with high-fat diet improves metabolic outcomes in obese

Overweight and obese patients with the single nucleotide polymorphism rs1522813 genotype had higher rates of metabolic syndrome reversion at two years when they followed a high-fat diet rather than a low-fat diet. However, patients who lacked the gene variant had no difference in reversion rates regardless of fat content in their diets, researchers reported in Diabetes Care. It is still unclear why a high-fat diet yields better results for patients with the gene variant, and more studies are required to assess the findings, researchers said.
